Magical Madagascar Day 8 – June 22nd – Ranomafana to Fianarantsoa National Park

A short day on Magical Madagascar Day 8 the road but rich in things to see. Once out of the park the journey south was spectacular as we encountered the first of the great escarpments. The big skies appear as we made our way to a wild silk workshop. Here the whole process was described from collecting the pupae pods to the final weaving into beautiful cloth. By the time we had left they had barely any products left! Just up the road was a hand crafted paper making workshop which doubled up as an excellent lunch stop.

Our over night camp was Camp Catta.  The turn for the camp was 40km after lunch and then we had 20km of rough dirt track.   Despite the remote location, we hundreds of people walking along the road en-route who knows where. Maybe they were returning from a market or some celebration. The journey was worth it as the ambience and remote location of Camp Catta, nestled at the foot of 300m high rocks, was spectacular.

We were greeted by the ring tailed lemurs and number of us climbed the hillside to get a magnificent view of the valley as the sun set. A BBQ was prepared for our dinner then lights out was at 10.30pm.
