Cuba Classic Rally 2018
January 15 to February 1, 2018
See Cuba before it catches up with the rest of the world
It’s a mysterious place borne out of a revolution that has locked it in a time capsule. You know about Fidel Castro and the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Bay of Pigs and cigars. You know about the cars – old American 50’s icons that have been ‘preserved’ and are in everyday use. Other than being a large Caribbean island, that’s about the extent of most people’s knowledge of this great country.
Our rally gives you a chance to see and experience the Cuba that Fidel Castro created in your own classic. We have permission from the highest authority to bring in your own car – as long as it’s left hand drive – and share the open roads with the other Cuban classics.
The Rally explores virtually the entire island, which is about the size of the UK, from the hustle and bustle of Havana to the quiet countryside where the main form of transport is a horse and cart. We take in the small towns preserved in aspic from the pre-revolution times including the point where Christopher Columbus landed in 1492, claiming the Island for his Spanish masters. No visit to Cuba is complete without a trip to a cigar plantation and factory where you can discover the truth about cigars being rolled on the thighs of virgins! And you have to try the seven year old rum to drink with your cigar.
We drive La Farola, the best mountain pass in Cuba, we go round the Bay of Pigs, pass by Guantanamo, visit the memorial to Che Guevara in Santa Clara, drive the fantastic causeways up to 48kms in length that join romantic islands to the mainland, and try the food in a local Paladar.
At all times accommodation will be the best possible and we will have rest days at regular intervals so that you can enjoy the culture and life style of the Cubans. Navigation will be on our tried and tested system of a combination of roadbook, maps and apps to ensure you don’t get lost. All driving days are scheduled to be in daylight hours.
We are here to help you at all times and will help you with the shipping of your car, provide the all-important visas, money conversion and health matters. On the rally we have a professional mechanic to help you with your car and a medic to ensure you stay healthy throughout.
Now you can be part of a historic adventure, starting and finishing in Havana. By travelling the length and breadth of the island you see sights and experience local life in a way no other visitors can. We explore the interior, the towns, the history and byways, visiting colourful towns, tobacco plantations, waterfalls and inviting turquoise beaches. It’s all here including the incredible music and exceptional night-life.
Now you can be part of a historic 18-day adventure starting and finishing in the vibrant city of Havana. This unique event travels the length and breadth of the island, exploring its interior, coast, history and byways.
